Losing your teeth affects every aspect of your life. One of the most obvious effects of tooth loss is the impact it has on your smile. No matter if you lose a single tooth or many, it becomes more challenging to eat and speak properly. Your digestion and health can suffer. Tooth loss also impacts the condition of your jawbone, leading to bone loss and changes in the shape of your face. Replacing missing teeth is essential for restoring the functions of your mouth and your quality of life. State Street Dental can replace missing teeth with dental implants.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a restorative treatment used to replace missing teeth. It is a modern alternative to traditional dentures and bridges. With dental implants, your replacement teeth, typically made from ceramic, are supported by small titanium posts that are surgically placed into your jawbone. During the recovery phase of your treatment, your bone gradually fuses to the posts. This is a natural process called osseointegration. As this fusion occurs, the posts become strong, stable roots that hold your replacement teeth in place. The teeth are secured with small screws and will not move around or fall out.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are a versatile treatment, and can replace a single tooth or an entire arch of teeth. There are many different types of dental implants that allow us to meet numerous different needs.
•  Single tooth implants. A single tooth implant is used to replace an individual tooth. A single post supports a single crown.
•  Multiple teeth implants. A multiple teeth implant is used to replace two or more consecutive missing teeth.
•  Full arch replacement. A full arch replacement is used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Typically, this solution requires 6 to 8 implant posts.
•  All on 4. The All on 4 treatment concept is a type of full arch replacement that can provide a solution for those who do not have enough bone mass remaining to support the 6 to 8 implant posts typically used. This treatment uses only 4 posts, which are strategically placed within your jawbone to maximize osseointegration without the need for a bone graft.

How are Dental Implants Placed?

Placing dental implants is an involved process that requires surgery. Surgery is performed under a local anesthetic and sedation. The procedure begins with small incisions in your gums, exposing the bone underneath. Next, small holes are drilled into the bone and the implant posts are placed inside. Your gums are sutured closed around the posts and temporary teeth are set into place.
The recovery following surgery can take anywhere from several weeks to several months. During this time, the bone gradually fuses to the implant posts, stabilizing them within your jaw. As you heal, we monitor your progress. Regular follow-up appointments allow us to ensure that everything is going smoothly and that there are no complications. Once you have fully healed, we design, create, and place your final dental restorations, securing them into place with small screws.

What are the Benefits?

There are numerous benefits associated with dental implants.
•  Your new teeth look, feel, and function exactly like real teeth.
•  Your restorations are secured in place with small screws. They will not slip out of place, move around, or fall out of your mouth.
•  Your new teeth can be brushed and flossed exactly like your real teeth.
•  Dental implants are the only replacement option that restores stimulation to your jawbone. This stops, and prevents, bone loss in your jaw, helping to keep it strong and healthy.

Dental implants not only restore the functions of your teeth and improve your smile, they also help to maintain the health and integrity of your jawbone, a benefit not provided by any other tooth replacement option.
